What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a substance that’s thought to promote healing when injected.

Plasma is a component of your blood that contains special “growth factors,” or proteins, that help your blood to clot. It also contains proteins that support cell growth. Researchers have produced PRP by isolating plasma from blood and concentrating it with a specialized centrifuge.

The idea is that injecting PRP into damaged tissues will stimulate your body to grow new, healthy cells and promote healing. Because the tissue growth factors are more concentrated in the prepared growth injections, researchers think the body’s tissues may heal faster.

PRP for hair loss involves having your blood drawn by one of our trained nurses, the blood is then centrifuged to separate the 3 layers in which the platelet rich plasma is extracted. The PRP is then injected into the scalp using a small multi-injection device.

A series of three treatments plus maintenance treatments are required. PRP for hair loss is often combined with other prescription and topical products to achieve the best outcome.

A referral from your family doctor is required to see a dermatologist regarding hair loss to determine if you are a candidate for PRP.

Cost: $2000 for 3 treatments
